MP Presents Big Lottery Cheque to St John Ogilvie Ladies Club

St John Ogilvie Ladies Club

18 January 2012

Local MP for Rutherglen and Hamilton West Tom Greatrex was on hand to present a cheque to the St John Ogilvie Ladies Club following a recent award of funding by the Big Lottery Fund.

The club, from High Blantyre, received funding from “Awards for All” totalling £3, 330 to enable them to provide for a trip to the Pantomime as well as holding a Christmas dance before the holidays.

Tom Greatrex met Helen Duddy, Secretary of the group, shortly before the parents, grandparents and children went to the Pantomime.

Tom Greatrex said: “It was great to see such excitement among the children and one or two parents also. It is worth recognising the important role that Big Lottery Funding provides in helping local groups organise different trips and activities.  I know that the Dance which the club are putting on is likely to be very popular.

Local groups like the St John Ogilvie Ladies Club benefit enormously from this type of funding and, even in more difficult financial circumstances, I would urge others to keep applying.”

Club Secretary Helen Duddy said: “I just want to thank the Big Lottery Fund for helping us provide for these two events.  Everyone enjoyed the opportunity to go to the Pantomime which was such a great experience for all the children.”

An Awards for All spokesperson said, “We are delighted to have made this award to St John Ogilvie Ladies Club and hope that they enjoy their Christmas Dance and visit to the pantomime.  We are always surprised at the difference a relatively small amount of money can make so if you have a great idea and think that a grant from Awards for All would benefit your local community you can apply online at www.awardsforall.org.uk
